My Best Pregnancy Nesting Tips for Niagara Moms

Nesting is a natural instinct many mamas experience later in pregnancy.

I would describe it as feeling the urge to prepare for your baby’s arrival. Here, I put together my top 10 pregnancy nesting tips for my Niagara moms. These tips include preparing your house, your family, and even your support after the baby arrives.

10 Pregnancy Nesting Tips

1. Prep Your Child(ren) - If you have older children, spend some time helping them process and prepare for this big life transition. You can buy or borrow books on being a big brother to read together. Many children’s shows feature an episode on becoming a big sibling. My favourite is the Daniel Tiger episode. If you need more ideas, visit my resource on how to help your older child welcome a newborn here.

2. Wash Baby Linens - This task can be very satisfying. Whether everything is brand new or coming out of storage, you’ll want to have these washed and ready for you. Wash, dry, and put away all baby linens, including clothing, blankets, sheets, towels, and burp cloths.

3. Make Freezer Meals - Make (or buy) freezer meals that will be quick and easy to heat up after the baby is here. This is a big task that you’ll thank yourself for later.

4. Deep Clean the House - This is a pretty broad task, but many mamas take this time to deep clean the house before the baby is here. This might look like cleaning all the floors, dusting, and washing your windows. It depends on what your house will need.

5. Stock Up on Essentials - What day-to-day items can you stock up on before the baby gets here? Think wipes, diapers, toilet paper, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and more. You’ll be grateful to have these items on hand.

6. Create Nursing/Feeding Baskets - The feeding basket will contain supplies needed to feed the baby. Maybe that’s nursing items, blankets, burp cloths, snacks and water for mom, and maybe a few toys or “surprises” for your older children. Create a feeding basket or bin for different areas in your home, such as living areas and bedrooms.

7. Create Postpartum Care Baskets - Now that you have your feeding baskets ready, you need to make sure you can take care of yourself postpartum. Depending on what type of birth you have, you’ll want to have all of the medicines, supplies, and care items needed to heal after birth.

8. Plan Help - What help will you need when the baby arrives? You may need childcare for your older children, someone to come to clean your house or meals. Don’t be afraid to ask and accept any help postpartum. If you don’t live by family, now is the time to research and find what help is available in your community.

9. Familiarize Yourself with Niagara Parent Resources - Speaking of finding support, the Niagara area has some amazing resources for new parents. I created this list of parent resources in our area here. Read through it and bookmark this article for later.

10. Schedule Your Maternity and Newborn Portrait Sessions - Book your maternity photoshoots as soon as possible during your pregnancy to ensure you can work with your dream Niagara maternity photographer. After you’ve booked your session, you can look forward to documenting your pregnancy.
