Practicing Intentional Love Through Your Family Photos

How has the fall season been going for you?

For so many people I’ve spoken to lately, the common answer seems to be that it’s been really nice getting back to “normal” … and also, it’s been a bit of a struggle to keep up those deep feelings of connection and quality time we had with our family while isolating during the pandemic.

Photos that Help Us Practice Love:

I think our best medicine during this season of change is to be extra intentional about demonstrating our love. We may not have hours to talk around the dinner table, or entire evenings free to talk to people on the phone. But, we always have moments, and little moments are all we need to express the love we have for each other.

Let’s capture the fullness of these moments in your family photos.

When you book your family photos with Reflections, your photography experience will be made out of moments just like this – the kind of moments that become our best memories.

At Reflections, I’ve designed your photography session to help you all experience the five love languages:

  • Acts of Service

  • Receiving Gifts

  • Quality Time

  • Words of Affirmation

  • Physical Touch

Make your yearly family photos a tradition where every single person feels loved and seen.

Read on to see how I have baked each of these love languages into your photo sessions.

But first, let’s shine a spotlight on this precious family!

FAMILY SPOTLIGHT:

More sneak peeks from our fall sunset sessions!

Meet Mama (Marcela), Dad (Tamas) and their six and a half month old son James!

When this sweet trio met me at our location in Grimsby, it was one of those warm fall days that still had a taste of summer to it. We were able to blend the two seasons together when we captured this wide-open-field-at-sunset photo collection. We went with a colour palette of beiges and whites so that the sunset could really work its golden-hour magic in the photos. And James is already a pro in front of the camera – he set the perfect smiley, happy tone for their family photos.

Can you tell?

I want your photos to be living reminders of a moment in time and the way it felt. When you see these moments on your walls and in your photo albums, they can serve as reminders of the ways you want to express your love to each other every day.

How The Five Love Languages Show Up in Your Family Photography:

  • Acts of Service – Service is so near and dear to my heart. I knew right from the moment I started Reflections that I wanted to incorporate my passion for serving into the client experience. That is why I arrange your photo shoot to be a luxurious time, from having your hair and makeup done to getting full access to my curated studio wardrobe. I love taking good care of you.

  • Receiving Gifts – Gift-giving is such a meaningful part of the photography experience. Every photo you print for your wall or your albums is a gift you’re preserving for your children as they grow up. And as you plan all the ways to gift-give your family photos to grandparents, aunties and your children, I also want to share a gift with you! When you book a photo session with me, I love sending you a little thank-you gift of self-care items that you can use the night before your photo session.

  • Quality Time – It can be so hard to make time to just be together (not running the kids to soccer practice or being in the same room while you fold laundry and answer emails). I want your photo sessions to feel like a time that is dedicated to just “being.” You don’t have to worry about being productive, or tying loose ends or checking things off a list … you get to just be in each other’s presence with no other distractions.

  • Words of Affirmation – I absolutely love prompting words-of-affirmation moments in my photo sessions! Not only do I encourage my clients with positive affirmations while they’re posing, but I want to guide you to do so for each other too! Talk to your baby about all the things you love about them. Dad, whisper into Mom’s ear and tell her how beautiful she looks. Tell your husband how it feels when you finally get to see him after a long day of work.

  • Physical Touch – And, something none of us got enough of over the last two years – hugs, kisses, comforting touches of the arm. Physical touch is such an important part of demonstrating the closeness of your family in photos. And at Reflections, I give you moments to really just enjoy it: the feeling of holding your child, of being held by your husband, or of holding hands with your partner as you walk through life together.

I want your photos to be living reminders of a moment in time and the way it felt. When you see these moments on your walls and in your photo albums, they can serve as reminders of the ways you want to express your love to each other every day.

Conclusion:

Having up to date family photography around your home will help you remember the beauty and abundance that is available in each new season of your motherhood journey. Because you are worthy of the joy that comes along with living in gratitude.

About This Beautiful Family

It was so dreamy getting to capture this sweet family of three in a field at sunset for their family milestone session. James is six months old, and it’s so easy to see how much love and laughter he has brought to his parents! As they basked in the warm glow of the sunset, I felt so grateful to get to capture these special moments for them.
