How We Make Sure Hubby Enjoys the Portrait Process

Not every family member dreams about a portrait session, but we can help make sure everyone feels comfortable and ready.

Does your husband dread family photos? He’s far from alone. I believe your husband can truly enjoy the portrait process and actually have fun during it. I believe it because I’ve seen it happen over and over again during my portrait sessions.

Here’s how we make sure your husband enjoys the full-service portrait process from start to finish.

How We Make Sure Your Husband Enjoys Our Portrait Process

Show Him The Photographer’s Work

Does your hubby feel like he isn’t photogenic? Does he imagine an old-school, stuffy or posed family portrait? Let’s make sure he knows that he doesn’t have to worry about any of these things. Show him my work on social media or my website to show all the different families I’ve photographed over the years. So many of these families had the same worries and look at how their sessions turned out. You are welcome to share any and all of my testimonials with him, too.

Pre-Session Planning

This will depend on your husband. If he likes being part of the planning, then we can include him. That way, he’ll feel like he’s part of the entire process and not being left out or forced into something. I always call the day or so before the session to check if there are any last-minute questions or concerns. I am happy to answer anything.

Make Sure Everyone’s Full and Ready

The day of the session has arrived. I highly recommend feeding your family before arriving and bringing colourless snacks in case an older sibling gets hungry (or treats for your dog). Eating before will ensure everyone is full and ready to start the session. This includes your husband, kids, and yourself.

Keep the Session Light and Fun

I keep my portrait sessions light and fun with just the right amount of play. Your husband will enjoy spending time with his family in a stress-free environment. I have everything handled, so your family can just have fun. I have little games handy to keep your children moving and smiling, so you and your husband don’t have to worry about corralling your children.

In this session, we played with studio toys like blocks and soft feathers, did a cake smash, got cleaned up in the baby bath, dried him with warm towels, and brushed his hair with a soft brush. Both mom and dad are involved with each of these activities to have fun and make memories.

Done-for-You Portrait Artwork

Your husband might worry about what to do with the portrait artwork after the session. Both parents are invited to the image reveal so we can choose favorites and design their wall art and albums together. Sometimes dads like to leave this part of the process to us, which is fine as well.

With done-for-you portrait artwork, I handle everything from design, to print, and even installation. Neither of you has to hang the portraits on the wall because I do it.

Your First-Year Portrait Photographer

I hope this helps you feel confident that your hubby will enjoy the full-service portrait process. I’ve noticed a trend of dads being pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the session. In fact, I love it when I hear, “That was actually fun!” from my dads. I’m open to any and all questions from you or your husband.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

“If you are thinking about doing a family photoshoot with Karen, this is your sign! Karen is absolutely amazing!

We did a family photoshoot for my son’s first birthday (our family dog included). Karen has a natural way of making you feel so comfortable and at ease. From the very first phone call you know she is very good at what she does, the communication was top notch letting you know what’s going on every step of the way. We went for the whole experience, hair and make-up, wardrobe, photoshoot, digital/physical prints, and installation.

At first, I wasn’t sure about selecting from the wardrobe because we all have our own style but I was blown away by the beautiful selection and it just takes the stress out of the whole experience knowing that Karen has you covered.

Christine did my hair and makeup on the morning before the shoot at my house and she is amazing! She has such a wonderful energy you would feel like she is an old friend and it’s the best hair and makeup I have ever got to the point where I was sad to wash my hair lol!

I highly recommend Reflections. Do it, and your future self will thank you!” - Claire Muldrew
