Including Older Children in the First Year Portrait Session

Can you believe it’s already time to celebrate your baby’s first birthday?

That first year comes with so many changes for your whole family. As a full-service Niagara baby photographer, that’s why it’s important to me that your older children are part of the portrait experience.

The purpose of a first year portrait session is to document your baby’s portraits, but that doesn’t mean we can’t include your older children in this special session, too. These family-focused sessions document your baby’s first birthday while telling your family’s story.

Your baby’s first year portraits are still the feature, but here are some of the amazing benefits of including your whole family in the session.

Documenting A Beautiful Bond

Involving older children in these milestone portrait sessions is a beautiful way to document the beginning of their sibling bond. As you’ll see in this session, we used simple toys to capture moments of play, and, of course, big brother wanted some of the cake. We still captured solo portraits of the baby with his cake and some with the brothers sharing. Siblings sharing is a real moment that the parents witness all the time. Now they have these images to preserve those memories.

Everyone is Welcome and Included

My studio is designed to be a welcoming and stress-free space for every family member. From wardrobe choices to a clean, comfortable environment, I take care of all the details before, during, and after the session, so you can focus on enjoying the moment. Each full-service portrait session includes coordinating wardrobe for the entire family, hair and makeup services for mom, an easygoing session day experience, and custom artwork.

Thoughtful Inclusions for Older Children

If you’re worried about how your toddler will handle a portrait session, let me put your mind at ease. We never expect “perfect behaviour” from any child during our sessions. In fact, we don’t need your children to behave. We just need them to have fun. My team and I love children and have some of our own, so we have lots of tricks up our sleeves to get the perfect shot.

Preserving Memories for a Lifetime

Your baby’s first year goes by way too fast. While there will be moments of chaos, there are so many sweet moments, too. Hitting the pause button with a full-service, family-focused portrait session will help you slow down. During the session, you’ll be able to look around at your beautiful family and soak in the moment. Long after your session, you can look at your heirloom album or your wall art and remember that wonderful morning with your family.

Telling Your Family’s Story

This is more than just taking photos; this is telling your family’s story. By taking the time to capture and frame these moments with your family, you’re gifting yourself and your loved ones this snapshot in time. The artwork we create from this session will be enjoyed by you, your children, and maybe even your grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
